    Are you the next Small Business Person of the Year?
    SBA is currently accepting nominations for the National Small Business Week awards. For over 60 years, National Small Business Week has recognized the outstanding achievements of America’s small businesses for their contributions to their local communities, and to our nation’s economy. Submit your National Small Business Week award nominations by December 5 at 4pm ET.

    Last month, SBA announced that it has exhausted funds for its disaster loan program after warnings that funding would soon run out following increased demand from Hurricane Helene.
    SBA’s loan application portal remains open, SBA’s disaster centers and in-person staff remain deployed across the country, and the agency will continue to accept new applications and ready borrowers to get their disaster loan offers as soon as possible -- once Congress appropriates funds. Apply for assistance.     Alaska Native corporations help strengthen Native communities for future generations. 
    One example is Akima, a subsidiary of NANA Regional Corporation, that participates in SBA’s 8(a) Business Development program. The program provides training, technical assistance and other services to help small businesses, Alaska Native corporations, Community Development Corporations, Indian tribes, and Native Hawaiian organizations compete for government contracting opportunities.
    After winning several contracts, Akima is giving back. For instance, Akima’s internship program offers hands-on experience and mentorship to provide tomorrow’s leaders the skills they need to succeed.
