A Dream Realized: First-Generation Homeowner Finds Stability with Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley
For Jessica Sandoval, owning a home wasn’t just a dream—it was a well-researched goal. With experience in the mortgage industry, Jessica understood the challenges facing first-time buyers, from rising interest rates to increasing living costs. Still, she was determined to secure a permanent home for her family, where each of her children could have their own space.
Her search for an affordable solution led her to Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley’s Homeownership Program, which offers homes to qualified first-time buyers. The program includes homebuyer education, down payment assistance and financing with low interest loans. After attending a Homeownership orientation, Jessica knew Habitat’s model aligned with her goals.
Jessica shared how amazed she was with the program and the immense support she received from the team who offered a sense of security and reassurance throughout the entire process. She worked closely with the Family Services and Education team to secure additional resources for down payment assistance, including support from Neighborhood Partnership Housing Services (NPHS), making her monthly payments even more manageable.
Now settled into her new home, Jessica reflects on the transformation. “This is our forever home—a place we get to build and decorate how we like. It’s where my kids will grow up, and where I’ll retire.” As a first-generation homeowner, she takes pride in creating a stable foundation for her family and a space for memories, like her daughter’s first communion.
Jessica encourages others to consider Habitat’s program, noting, “If you are thinking about applying, just do it. The process to buy a home can be discouraging but Habitat offers services that make homeownership possible”.
This November, Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley will celebrate Jessica’s achievement along with three other families at a House Dedication event.
